United Technologies is a manufacturing powerhouse with six separate companies under its umbrella. Its units offer services like fire safety and products like the near-iconic Otis elevators. Its Pratt & Whitney division, which designs aircraft engines and space propulsion systems, has won some major deals since it introduced a fuel-saving engine design called PurePower that was 20 years in the making. Indian airline IndiGo plans to put the jet engine in 150 of its new Airbus A320neo planes, and Lufthansa is using it for 30 in its fleet, too. —S.D.

One Response to United Technologies

    Employees of UTC:

Do not make use of the Dialogues or Ombudsman… you will be victimized.
If you catch a manager assaulting a fellow employee or asking you to raise fraudulent invoices, do not not report them! You will be subjected to a hearing for an untidy office.

    You have been warned, employees.

    UTC Customers:

As for customer service… a GM was heard, by a fellow colleague, telling a customer to ‘get the fuck out of my branch.’
I promptly reminded the employee to keep her mouth shut for fear of reprisals. She did so and still has her job a year later. *phew*

    Funny accounting:

I was asked to raise a Purchase order on a monthly basis for ‘something to fall back on’ by the Regional Finance Director. It was an amount of approx $2,500.00 a month. At first I refused, but received a gentle persuasion from my line manager that it was alright and I should do as I’m told. In my defense; I was new to UTC at the time.

I was also asked to raise invoices on accounts that had been in credit for over a year. The invoices were to balance out the credits… no sense in refunding money when in a recession, right? Riiiiight!

    Why did I resign?
In three and a half years, we lost four Admin Staff. The reasons were varied but the fact was… these positions were never filled. Guess who got stuck with the work? I was doing Billing, AP chain, WIP, Stocktake, Sales Pipelines, Reception and I was doing the Admin Manager’s job when he stepped down for half a year. Getting to home at 1am but being denied overtime is not conducive to staff loyalty, c’mon UTC. -.-

BTW: I have proof of these allegations so please don’t come after me, for your sake, UTC.
